First Independence Bank will NEVER contact you and request personal information by phone, email or text messaging including account numbers, personal identification information, passwords or any other confidential customer information. Our top priority is to safeguard your confidential information and we work diligently to do so.
Federal Financial Regulators require institutions to perform periodic risk assessments, implement controls for those identified risks, and to raise customer awareness to potential risks through their education program. What that means to you is a safer and more secure online environment.
Internet Banking Security
All information within our Internet Banking uses the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol for transferring data. It creates a secure environment for the information being transferred between your computer and First Independence Bank. In addition to the security features setup by First Independence Bank, here are some tips to protect your information:
- Never share or give out your Access ID, User Name, Passwords, or Security Challenge Questions & Answers
- Monitor your account activity on a regular basis
- Do not use personal information as your Access ID, User Name & Password
- Create difficult passwords that include letters & numbers and upper & lowercase letters
- Change your password frequently
- Avoid using public computers to access your Internet Banking
- Always logout of internet banking. Don’t just use the X to close out of the system.
- Do not provide any personal information to web sites that do not use encryption or other secure methods of protection
- Ensure your computer is equipped with up to date anti-virus, anti-spam and mal-ware software
- Do not allow your computer or web browser to save your login names or passwords
- If your computer is connecting directly to the internet you should use a personal firewall software or a hardware router/firewall to protect your PC.
- Keep your computer updated with the latest updates and patches for your operating system.
Commercial Banking Internet Security
In addition to the information provided regarding “Internet Banking Security” Commercial & Small Business account holders should institute additional measures in order to further protect their online banking for example:
- Perform your own annual internal risk assessment & evaluation on all online accounts
- Establish internal policies regarding employee internet usage
- Ensure all company computers are equipped with up to date anti-virus protection software
- Ensure you have procedures for terminating access for former employees
- Inform employees to never write down Internet Banking passwords and leave them out in the open
- Ensure dual control or other checks and balances over individual access to online transaction capabilities
Check Your Credit
Any consumer can request one free copy of his or her credit report per year. Reviewing your credit report can help you find out if someone has opened unauthorized financial accounts or taken out unauthorized loans in your name. Contact the three major credit bureaus – Equifax (1-800-685-1111), Experian (1-888-397-3742), or Trans Union (1-800-916-8800) – to request a copy.
Reg. E is a consumer protection law for accounts established primarily for personal, family, or household purposes. Non-consumer accounts, such as Corporations, Partnerships, Trusts, etc. are excluded from coverage. Reg. E gives consumers a way to notify their financial institution that an EFT has been made on their account without their permission.
If you believe your password has been lost or stolen and you notify us within two business days after you learn of the loss or theft, you can lose no more than $50 if someone uses your password to conduct unauthorized electronic funds transfers. If you do not notify us within two business days after you learn of the loss or theft of your password, and we can prove we could of stopped someone from using your password to conduct unauthorized electronic funds transfers if you had told us, you could lose as much as $500. After 60 days, you could be legally liable for the full amount.
You may use On-line Banking to conduct transactions to view account information, transfer funds among linked accounts, and initiate bill payments.
